I am using Google Chrome latest stable build. When I try to comment on news articles, I get error:

Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.thelocal.se/comments.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

It hasn't been fixed for weeks! Lazy admins who don't care? Well then, you will lose a reader. Maybe one person is not much, but in time more readers will learn Swedish and move to the greener pastures, and you can enjoy your circlejerking community bashing newcomers and people of other culture/religion in general.

I get the same message, but several minutes later my comment is on there. Some kind of technical glitch.

Generally the issue I usually face is that I have to login separately, wait a good time for it to load and when I do submit. I usually find the page just goes white ?

The comment doesn't get posted immediately, and there is a good 5 - 10 minute wait before it gets published.

This would indicate that the database is separate from the forum in some way.
And given last years hacktivists, increased political tensions and other issues.
That either the posts are vetted prior, delayed or monitored by a 3rd party.

I've been having the same thing happen as the OP for the last couple of days now. Is there anything we can do as users to fix this or do we just have to wait?

The front end (news sections) is a different database and likely server to the commenting and forum services. Not much they can do unless they migrate everything to the same DB and basically rebuild from scratch.

They could however integrate with other commenting services such as Disqus or some such off the shelf product.
