I had similar issue.
What I can tell you is that police will always side with the local if you are alone and a foreigner. Most of the case they will just try to separate you from the renter. And make sure you that you leave or doesn't stay near the renter.

In my case they just asked me to leave the appartment even though I was renting it because the renter changed the lock.
Even though I could provide the rental lease.

The only thing you can do is inform the true owner of the appartment, and go public or ask swedish friend to help you talk to the police.

For my case, it was an appartment in odengatan.

See my precedent post.

You should also go to kronofogden; Not sue directly as I did. My case is still ongoing but this old woman kept going to her doctor for medical leaves and avoid the court.
