I constantly hear swedes saying that the lack of rentals is only happening in Stockholm. That same people say that if you move to smaller cities you will find rentals in no time. All of that is false and it's just said to hide how catastrophically bad the situation is in sweden regarding the rental market.

sweden has the advantage of international media blackout so sweden can hide the true magnitude of the situation from international press.

Here is an example of how bad the situation is in a small city like ?rebro with just roughly 100k people. You will find many articles in swedish here and there but for the average person who lives abroad they will never know the true magnitude of the problem.

https://svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/orebro/atta-a...for-fa-bostader

QUOTE
?rebro is a city with 117,543 inhabitants

QUOTE
Eight out of twelve municipalities in the county have too few homes

The person who wrote the article was honest to admit that even in small cities the situation is bad.

QUOTE
There are too few homes in our municipalities, according to Boverket's annual survey. It is worst in the metropolitan regions and higher education municipalities, such as ?rebro. But even in the smaller municipalities there is a housing shortage.

QUOTE
In Sweden, there is a shortage of housing in 240 of 290 municipalities. In ?rebro county there is a deficit in eight of our twelve municipalities.

QUOTE
The newspaper Home & rent has reviewed the statistics from the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning and found that five of the county's twelve municipalities, even if three years, expect to have a deficit.

QUOTE
In 59 of the country's municipalities, a single new apartment is not expected to be built within a three-year period, according to Hem & rent .

QUOTE
The Swedish Housing Agency's survey also shows that it is difficult for new arrivals to obtain housing. 76 percent of the country's municipalities do not have enough apartments for new arrivals.

QUOTE
The type of housing that is most in demand is rental apartments and, above all, larger apartments. The municipalities state that the main obstacle to balance is high production costs and that private individuals cannot afford the housing.

As I've explained before, WE are the problem. Every year thousands of people just pitch up then complain... sweden isn't welcoming us with open arms, sweden is providing us with non Swedish speaking jobs, sweden isn't providing us with the housing I want where I want it etc..

What do people expect... life on a plate just because they woke up one day and decide to move here.

Not sure what people expect. I bet there's tons of more rural housing around there too. You can't always live precisely where you wish.

How many folk have decided to move to sweden in the last 5 years? Folk have to be realistic in how long it takes to build new apartments in cities and adapt their expectations to what exists already. It's that or go back to which ever eu nation we came from if sweden is so rubbish.

Sounds like a cheap excuse to hide the fact that rentals in sweden are a trap.
Sweden is mostly empty, even the three "big" cities are not crowed compared to other places in Europe and yet sweden seems incompetent to provide basic needs covered.

Isn't sweden supposed to be the best country on earth with the best system and the best of everything?.

You would have a point if sweden had the population density of cities like London, New york, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona. But let's be honest sweden and most scandinavia are empty.

So why is sweden constantly trying to hide the rental mess with false excuses?.

Living in the middle of nowhere? What for when jobs are in the cities?. Shouldn't a top of the world country like sweden have also a top of the world housing system in which people don't have to live like nomads moving from second hand to another 3 times a year?.

100% correct. Also people moaning on here probably don't know where or how to look either. They think everything is on one website or think someone should come along and hand them everything.

Is it Sweden's job to employ and house everyone? No.

What percentage of eu migrant workers are homeless, sleeping on the streets?

A country can't just keep thousands of homes vacant just in case somebody from Spain decides to come here. If demand exists more will be built, which they are.

3 big cities... if immigrants could do some basic research they'd discover a vast range of employment opportunities in all corners and wouldn't need to follow like sheep to the major cities. Living rural ly you can often pay a third of what you might in a city for accommodation, have a train station on the doorstep and discover that some of those travel expenses are tax deductible. Win win.

https://www.thelocal.se/20180228/sweden-nee...ing-agency-says

1) "Sweden, which for decades has been battling a housing crisis, needs to build 600,000 new homes by 2025 to sufficiently accommodate its growing population, the country's top housing agency said on Wednesday."

2) "According to the national statistics agency Statistics Sweden, 53,500 new homes were built last year. But Sjelvgren said it is not nearly enough, especially as the nation's population has surged in the past few years."

3) "It has become less beneficial to construct affordable housing meanwhile, and rental apartments, if built, are directed at high income households," he added."

4) "According to a recent report by the Swedish Union of Tenants (Hyresg?stf?reningen), almost a quarter of young people aged between 20 and 27 still live with their parents ? the highest number since the figures were first recorded in 1997, when the proportion was 15 percent."

5) "Only 57 percent of people in that age bracket have their own home either through a first-hand rental contract or a bostadsr?tt ? the lowest measured proportion ever."

Looks like Commrad Skoogsies knows what he's talking about...according to him you should be happy to wait in line for a loaf of bread for a week, too.

In this age of finite natural resources, reducing carbon foot prints etc.. why does every individual have to have their own home, it's just not efficient in any respect and is a bit of 1950/60s mentality of measuring success. Multi generation homes are the future, less carbon foot print, more family life, resolves many child or elderly care issues too.

With all due respect, this seems a bit of a simplistic view to me.
It's not like if there are 100 homes and 100 families that search homes than there is no housing crysis. And immigration from Spain is totally one of the variables to be considered, among many others.
This is similar to say "it's cold today so there is no global warming, amiright?"
There are homes on blocket so there certanly not a shortage, right?

Yes, a country/city job is to plan and foresee for expansion or contractions of housing demand as current policies deem appropriate.
Mind you, what I mean is also saying that it can be a totally legit strategy to provide build less homes than needed, in order to increase their value due to offer-demand unbalance. It's one of many measures one could try to tackle other themes like immigration.
But I'm sure this is clear to all.

Also, living rural is not for everybody and your personal evaluation can be different from others. I've talked to people that having to relocate for a job in Malmo decided to move to Copenhagen as the first was too small for them.

There are properties for sale and to rent. Sweden isn't without homes. Population has grown rapidly in the last 5 years through migration not natural growth, but everyone is still housed. Most cities have major building programmes already.

Rural life.. tough. If you come from elsewhere in Europe (as I did) to find work etc.. then you should be grateful you have job and a roof over your head. If life here is that bad then there is a solution, people are willing to risk drowning to get here, whilst fellow Europeans moan that sweden hasn't rolled out enough red carpet for them.

Unfortunately the housing situation has opened a can of worms in the form of criticisms of Sweden and it's peoples, which are not pertinent to the conversation/debate but have become the main theme...

You wonder if the complainers will ever be happy anywhere as they certainly were not happy with the land of their birth either, where can these complainers go???

"why does every individual have to have their own home"

Nice deflection!

But let's start with you, Skoogenheimer, oh Holy one.

Do you live in a cave, or in your own home? (rhetorical question)

And then "why" do you live in your own home? (rhetorical question)

And now you can answer your own silliness, in parentheses above.

And by the way, since you seem to need the help, I can vouch for families, who generally prefer to live together (nuclear family). So you are merely exaggerating by claiming "every individual needs their own home". Generally the kids live with mom and dad until they come of age.

Your line of argument in general is simply amazing. It's as if you expect some outsider professor, doctor, nurse whatever, to live on the streets, as if wanting to live "inside" is some unreasonable desire.

Yes, you Muppet, when people move, for work especially, they expect they will have somewhere to raise their family, hang their clothes, cook their food, entertain friends etc etc etc. Somewhere their kids can sit and do their homework, or lay sick in bed at times as the case may be. You know, a "home" to go home to.

Why you cannot fathom this, and why you continuously attempt to portray anyone who yes "expects" this, from Sweden, or anywhere else for that matter, is truly an amazing stance to take.

Looks like after turning into a Meatball, you went full Meathead (i.e. you've become a detached, confused, denial expert).

What's more funny, is that both you and idiot-stick Gamla criticise people here for making the very same complaints Meatballs make.

Even the Meatheads can't take that new job in city X, because they can't find a place to live in city X.

It's well documented, it's a fact, for years now. Not a secret. But still you two mainly, arrogantly ignore/deny what's really going on, because you're both too fragile and pompous to accept the reality.

In one way, makes sense with the idiot-stick Gamla, since he has never lived in Meatballia, so why would one expect him to know what he is talking about.

But you supposedly live inside the Greasy Meatball. So you have no excuse other than your powers of denial and ignorance in these matters, to get round the "facts".

Gjeebes,

You make it sound like people are homeless. They aren't, there are still thousands of homes on the market, many of them vacant right now.

You are a daft energy vampire. No one simply has the energy required to splain anything to you in enough detail for you to finally get the point through your thick cranium.

For you to claim I am attempting to indicate people live on the streets there, is case in point (i.e. you are not capable of joining the dots, even after this has been done for you).

I am simply in awe of your comprehension levels. I must assume you have trouble chewing gum and walking at the same time.
