Hi,
I received my PUT after having lived with a Swedish citizen for 2 years, in March 2016. However, that relationship came to an end in August 2016, after which I spent two academic semesters (9 months in total) as an exchange student in Europe. My question is - am I yet elligible to apply for Swedish citizenship? Had I remained in the relationship and lived together in Sweden, I would have been able to do that in March 2017, a year after my PUT was awarded. On Migrationsverket's website, it says that in order to apply for citizenship, you must have co-habited with a Swedish citizen for at least 2 years, which I have done, and that is the grounds on which my PUT was awarded. Given my absence from Sweden, i was wondering if it still counts as living abroad, since I was enrolled at a Swedish university during the entire time and the exchange was a mandatory part of the program, and in addition, I remained registered on my Swedish address during the entire time. Should I wait a couple of months to "make-up" for the 9 months I was abroad? Or am I supposed to wait longer, given that the relationship ended 2.5 years after my move to Sweden? The confusing part is the information on Migrationsverket's website, that in order to be elligible to apply for citizenship, you must have co-habited with a Swedish citizen for at least 2 years (given that your permit was awarded on these grounds). Hope anyone can provide some clarity before I get in touch with Migrationsverket. Thank you! |
