Saw drunk people on the subway at 5 pm

Random or is it just the Monday blues

Yeah been staying in Stockholm for more than 2 years. Never seen drunk people on a Monday at 5 pm in the evening.

Was a bit weird to say the least .

Depending on what you compare, but there are different rules to drinking in Sweden to other places.

Its socially unacceptable to drink before a certain time of the day, but its also acceptable to be totally plastered after certain hours.

My view is that Sweden is a nation of secret drinkers.

My limited experience (by the very nature of secret drinking) would concur with that.

At least two members of my wife's immediate family are alcoholics neither of whom admit the problem and who only drink at home. One has bottles of whiskey stashed in various places inside and outside the house.

Used to always see an increase in drunks on the SJ train when people were coming home from office parties (and people buying wine/beer/shots at 8am when the same people were on their way there!! ohmy.gif)

Thats easy, 5 in tunnelbana - Silja Finlandsbat leaves at 6, returning cruisers. (The ones going on Viking would be walking from Slussen)

Lots of secret drinkers, many with stashes of home-brew and illicit moonshine which is easily available everywhere.

Also there are always a few plonkies who can be seen staggering around the streets any time of day or night in just about every town and village throughout the country.
They obviously lost their dignity a long time ago and don't care a toss about Sweden and its socially acceptable drinking hours.

I put it all down to the sheer boredom of living in a country which is little more than an upmarket version of N.Korea.
