I am female and I was born in England.
I hold British and Swedish citizenship. I live in Sweden. Can my son who was born in Sweden 1973 apply for dual citizenship as I have ? |

Yes, as a British Citizen your child can obtain a British passport by decent, however, I believe this right is limited to children with a parent born in Britain. So if you son has children, they may not have the same right.
Overseas passport applications are completed online and the process is fairly easy. Be careful though, they are very strict and the application and accompanying evidence/statements must be exact. |

No need to apply for his citizenship formally. All I did for my children is apply for their passport. Just follow the steps and do exactly what it tells you and remember evidence must be original documents.

Just be aware that it is not cheap. Nothing like it used to be way back when, when we went to the Embassy and got things organised personally and quickly, and at considerably lower cost.

And what citizenship does your son already have? Swedish or British? You only say he was born in Sweden, but not whether you had dual or single citizenship when he was born? And what nationality is the father? You need to check the 1983 rule, children born before 1983 overseas could only have citizenship transferred from the father (if british citizen) and only then if the father was married to the mother. It isn't straight forward at-all! |
