Or did he pretty much decide that with the TL changes last year he decided not to post anymore (like Holey and others)?

Markbase was a Mod even after the changes but I seem to remember he dropped out/back as a Mod because he had some big job on

So perhaps he is earning mega bucks and doesn't have time for us 'little people' biggrin.gif

Can anyone enlighten me ( a relative newbie) as to what these "changes" that are often alluded to actually were ?
I am curious and maybe others who might be wondering ? smile.gif tack !

Well some changes from memory. There used to be a single line header to topics, and then The Local decided 2 line headers would be used, along with some quite bizare editing of headings going on for a time. The edit robot remains which changes the case of words sometimes, but is otherwise pointless. And the change to allowing posters to change headings, at any time. Good or bad, you choose.

A big change is that once you could amend and delete your own postings for ever. Now the time limit is tens of minutes after which if you have made an ar*e of yourself you are stuck with it.

And the worst era was one of active post/thread editing and deleting. It culminated in The Local appointing some moderators, including MarkBase who ceased doing anything shortly after. Miss Kitten stays but isnt seen much. Thankfully, things are essentially left alone these days, but for some The Local Discussion is not the place it was. Thread merging was also carried about, even by the moderators, usually annoying someone or everyone, and thankfully this also rarely happens now.

Oh, and when at that time, things got a bit vitriolic, The Local got very touchy and any critical threads got terminated or even deleted very quickly. Now I noticed a couple of threads getting stopped in recent days, and since I was away didnt follow them and work out why.

The invitation is out for any others to comment on whether things are now for the better or worse. For myself, its not the same, but perhaps its because seeing topics come round again and again looses the edge somewhat. Also Googling for people who could do it for themselves looses the novelty after a while. But as one well known contributor has pointed out I am a sour old git, acknowledged.

Now what happened to Holey (Holecutter, the Howl from Hell, from memory) would really be something ...

Does anyone know if he bailed and went to another forum? I do miss him, and I'm sure his dad (Trow) misses him too. There are a number of characters that I miss seeing, even though some were annoying as hell (ie the angry-Serb-who-hates-Sweden-and-everyone-in-it).

Oh, sure Crappy, I miss my son, and wonder where he has gone. Even called his mother to see if he had retreated to her, but she hasn't heard anything. (Never has about almost anything.)

Then I miss Jason aka braderunner, HPK and Gus, too.

We used to have crazy, sometimes funny exchanges, and some content could be perceive in even the most looney ones.

Nowdays, posters are just too interested in being plain nasty, to suit apparently their own twisted personalites, and don't get passed it.
