Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to sincerely apologize if I sounded unusual in my original post.

Firstly, according to your posting history, dissatisfaction towards the status quo of the Swedish society can be seen. It is understandable, as I am also aware of the current migration issues in Sweden. I do not really agree with the policies of the Social Democrats either, but it will take another page to explain why I disagree.

However, it should be noted that I came here for constructive advice, but not ad hominem attacks. No matter what your stance is - be it Social Democratic or Sweden Democratic - I will expect a counterargument supported by objective statistics.

According to the Hierachy of Disagreement, which was proposed by English computer scientist Paul Graham, calling a person "retarded" is regarded as name-calling, which is the lowest level of disagreement that should be avoided at all costs in a constructive discussion, which is expected here.

And in fact, I am a member of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education who have attained a score of 7.5 in IELTS. Therefore, "retarded" is not an appropriate word for description. Please cease the name-calling and refrain from using abusive language. Constructive advice are most welcome.

Once again, this is a serious subject matter, and name-calling or ad hominem attacks are not welcome, regardless of your stance on Swedish politics. I am just a gymnasieelev who has a special love for the rich history and traditional culture of Sweden.

You've never visited, lived or worked in sweden, but think it's the place for you? I can guarantee everywhere is different to how it appears on the internet, some elements better, some worse. I'd come for a short spell, a year or two, then decide if you really want to be in sweden.

If you dislike the social democrats policies, then the UK or USA might suit you better.

Regarding my stance on the Social Dmeocrats, what I mean is that I do not *completely* agree with their policies, but I find some of them reasonable, though.
Olof Palme, a Social Democrat, was a good gentleman and a good Prime Minister.

As for my understanding about the country, I've seen different interpretations of Sweden, some emphasized more on the long healthcare/housing waiting times, some emphasized on the violence happening in Northwest Stockholm at the end of the Blue Line, while some showed a different face of those suburbs that portray them as peaceful places.

The reason why I chose Sweden is more about my affinity to *traditional* Swedish culture (which seems to live on in Sweden... or actually not?) and climate rather than their welfare system, or their so-called "beautiful descendants of the Valkyries".

If it was not for Hong Kong's lack of Swedish cultural influences, I would not have come to this land. All Hong Kong has is only a small Swedish food shop and Ikea. You can buy a suit easily in Hong Kong, but if someone is seen walking in a Sverigedr?kt, a Sweden-related T-shirt, or a Swedish flag cape in Hong Kong, he must have bought it from a Swedish website. To be honest, Hong Kong does not feel like Sweden at all. I guess I'm one of the very few Hundred people who actually at least know some sort of Swedish.

As for the climate, I do understand that shovelling snow is troublesome in winter months and the sun sets particularly early. I plan to circumvent this by going back to Hong Kong every year during Christmas to visit my friends and my alma mater. For me, I'd rather experience winters of -10?C instead of summers of 30?C. I want more sunlight but less uncomfortable heat during summer, and that's what Sweden can give.

If claims about the extinction of traditional Swedish culture in Sweden are true, I may consider another place with about the same climate with a community of Swedish migrants, like Minnesota.

It can still be 30c in summer. It's colder than-10. The sun sets as late in summer as much as it sets early in winter. It's already very light now.

Anything you read about Stockholm isn't how the rest of sweden is.

I think you'll be massively disappointed. You're a city boy and would hate it here. Sweden doesn't have any proper cities as you know it.

If you said wild spaces, wild life, changeable weather, work life balance, sports etc. Then I'd have said you 'may' enjoy Swedish life. But Swedish culture, you are buying a picture postcard dream that doesn't exist.

Swedish culture isn't dead, but jumping like a frog around a phallic symbol for 5 mins every June isn't that exciting either.

It does get dark in malmo even on midsummer just not for so long. It definitely can be over 30c for much more than one day etc. You can't learn everything from your books etc.

Kebnekaise is dull. There are better hills to the south and far better in Norway. As a mountaineer I can assure you there is nothing remotely exciting about it.

As I said visit first. Then make your life plans.
