Hi, first post here.
We are a family of 4 with 2 kids and we want to try the European lifestyle for a year or two and then decide if we want to stay. Lucky enough we also have EU citizenship so visa won't be a problem. Anyone here who think it's worth the move? I'm looking for positive/pertinent stories. What is the average cost of living and what benefits are available for children. We are planning to go to a English school, at least in the beginning. Is it something impossible, waiting list, etc? Also, how hard is to find a job as an electrician, BAS technician. I'm planning to go to school eventually and get a b.sc in computer science eventually. |

Why do you want to go to Sweden? What do you know of the place?
If you want "european", you don't go to Sweden, you go to Germany, France, UK, Spain. Sure, Sweden is "in" the "EU", but it is not really Europe any more than rust is a car. You should go, alone, for 6 months, ahead of your family. Test the waters. You might just be surprised how many sharp rocks have been dumped in the shallows. |

The question is what does Grommet know about Sweden? You don't live here and haven't for almost 30 years, if ever, so why comment on posts? OP don't listen to Grommet. He claims to be a Canadian, a scientist and have been published but he is a lying fantasist who enjoys slagging Sweden off with childish jibes about meatballs. I'm not saying you should listen to me but you sure as shit stinks shouldn't listen to Grommet, Martin565, Yortis or some others. Just check out their posts before deciding who to listen to. Sweden is a great country, open, friendly with great nature and lifestyle. It won't be a walk in the park but you will love it here and you'll feel welcome. |

Sweden is essentially a monoculture. I am friends with a Swedish American family,banker and scientist,they have two children.They actually left Sweden and moved to Luxembourg, because they didn't want their children to grow up in a monoculture or a place as repressed as Sweden. Luxembourg, though small,is actually rather nice,has a more international feel,good travel possibilities for the rest of Europe and a safe and pleasant place for children. |

Have lived in Canada and still living in Sweden. PLEASE DON'T MOVE HERE!!! It's not what you think and not what you read. I would have moved back to Canada in a heartbeat if I had had the opportunity. The Catholic schools in Canada are ten fold better than the English school here ....again, talking from experience. What I like about Sweden ... blue skies, fresh air, snow, nice places to walk the dogs, clean water, frozen prawns, breads, cheeses and coffee. That sums it up! There was sooooo much more in Canada.... |

I'm a bit surprised as I thought Sweden is multicultural with so many immigrants. Canada is multicultural only in the big cities. Small communities are a different story. Still a great country though. |

Why do you continue with fake friends? You do know the difference between acquaintances and friends, right? Sweden has nothing on Canada man. Really. Zero. Canada is a nation built from foreign backgrounds, starting with French and English. Sweden is a mono-culture of whites who need/desire extremely destitute immigrants to do the shit work they are too spoiled to do. Otherwise, Swedes have essentially zero interest in foreigners, except only the loneliest of them. And you think Canada is bad with friendly vs. polite, man, avoid Sweden. At least in Canada can have a decent social life that doesn't require you to join "hobby clubs" to meet people. If you have a zest for life, and enjoy spontaneity of living, seriously, avoid Sweden. If you are a lazy pig who doesn't have any pride in your work, what you do. If you would rather spend your life sleeping and you aim for nothing and expect all rewards, go to Sweden. It is Mekka for that. |

Those looking for advice/information should note...TheLocal is a haven for those hating Sweden...
People who have adjusted to a new life in Sweden and are happy and satisfied with it rarely post here... Advice from malcontents is freely available but not accurate... Again "happy campers" rarely post here!!! |

If only you knew how to shop for vegetables your experience living there would be a rewarding one...
You must be tired of coming home with decaying produce, only to be told...AGAIN...by your "Missus" that you picked the wrong ones again...the dust bin is NOT where the best vegetables are kept!!!
