Hey everyone!
I recently moved to Eskilstuna with my Swedish sambo and I'm looking to meet some new friends. I'm from the U.S. but I've been lucky enough to live in Argentina, Australia, Japan in the past few years. Unfortunately, without a job or current enrollment in SFI my friend circle is a wee bit small and I'd love to make some new friends. I'm up for anything, be it sports, frisbee golf / ultimate frisbee, a beer, etc. Also, we have a pretty nice patio, equipped with a grill and I'm a decent bartender Also, if you have any tips for finding local clubs or social events, that would be wonderful. I recently found this club (for non-competive sports events) and I'm going to try that out tonight. Thanks and hope to hear from you! Andrew |

Hej Andrew,
We are new to Eskilstuna too. We've relocated from the US, and have been in the Nyfors area for three weeks. We've not got our personnumbers yet, and are greatly limited on what we can do -- I'm sure you've experienced this. I'm basically hanging out at the Espresso House daily for internet purposes. Have you have any recommendations for us? How was the group? We are quite excited to be living here. It's lovely. Heather |

Hey Heather!
Welcome to Eskilstuna! Actually, I just got back here again myself. I spent a month or two in the US while I was waiting to receive the final decision. Now that I have got it, I'm doing the same waiting game you described. I imagine we might end up in the same SFI class I did mange to find a job in about 2 days here in Eskilstuna, so I recommend you try even if your Swedish isn't great. Of course, I need the peronalnummer for that. I didn't get a chance to check out the sports club last time, but I'm going on Monday. If you two would like to meet up for a beer tonight or something that would be fun. My email is andrewmlentz@gmail.com, send me a message and let me know. Cheers, Andrew |

Hi guys! I moved to Eskilstuna in June - moved in with my boyfriend who works here and I got a summer job as well. I've lived in Stockholm for 10 months before that and must say - it was much more interesting...
I speak some Swedish but am not a confident speaker and because of that it's hard to make new friends - just as you said. Are you guys still around? Discovered something fun to do here? I've been looking for a job for two months now but it seems hopeless and I'm getting frustrated - have waaay too much time on my hands |

Hey guys!
I'm also new to Eskilstuna. I lived in Uppsala for a year and a half but moved here a few weeks ago for work. In Uppsala they held InterNations events for expats, but Eskilstuna I guess is too small for that so I'm not sure of any organized social gatherings for us foreigners. Those of you that have lived here a bit longer... how have you liked the city? Have you made friends in sfi? Ally |

Hey guys!
I'm from the Philippines and Canada and I recently got a job offer in Eskilstuna. If all works out I will be moving there around the start of August. I'm relatively new to the world and haven't had much experience living on my own in Canada/Philippines, let alone in a whole new country. I've also been having a really hard time figuring out how I could find a decently priced apartment to rent and wondered if anyone could give some advice on that. Also, it would be nice to meet some people. Hope to hear back from you! Emma |

Hej guys!
I'm so sorry for the late response -- I didn't get any notices. We have been in Eskilstuna for a year now, and we like it very much. SFI is a bit of a mixed experience, but I've made a good friend. She's since moved to Bromma though. If anyone is interested in meeting up please let me know. We are always looking for new friends. Heather |

You don't need a personal number to get a job. Can't help on job advice, Eskilstuna has 14% unemployment and the national average is 8%. So that's not good news for job seekers... How's your Swedish? Maybe expand your search to ?rebro and V?ster?s, they still have unemployment rates above the national average but not nearly as bad as Eskilstuna. |
