Is there anything to do other than waiting? Anywhere we can file a complaint? Taking it to an Ombudsman will not help but I don't think anyone has to wait 17 months for a decision.
Any suggestions? |

Citizen applications in theory have no limit on the time it takes to process them. Meaning they can take as long as they wish, there are no legal requirements to get a decision within a given time.

Is this really true?? Says Migrationsverket m?ste utreda ans?kan: 15-17 m?nader... on MVs website... been waiting 14 months myself... No it does not. That means that it usually takes 15-17 months but it can also take much longer. |

If there's no legal limit then there is no point writing long reports by JO and critizing the long processing times. I just don't get the idea of unlimited waiting. You apply and you get a certain time frame. But it's not the case for applicants and this is just unacceptable.

I know a colleague at work who had similar application as mine, he got his decision in a month. He applied in March this year. There is no way that his application didn't require investigation and mine does.
It seems that there is no systematic approach in processing applications. It is a just lottery game ![]() |

I agree, it was the same for me: a co-worker with the same job and less time in Sweden than me applied 8 months later than me, and got a decision a month or two before me. |

These are mostly around residence applications, some categories such as EU have legal time limits in which they have to be met, but most are supposed to be met in "reasonable time" or as quickly as possible. When I applied for citizenship I was told this; there is no limit on the time it takes to process citizenship applications. A few years ago there were cases of people waiting years and nothing could be done about it. |
