The Local _ Stockholm _ Looking for House

Posted by: Paladine 29.Apr.2017, 03:02 PM

I have just accepted a job in Stockholm and I am looking for a long term rental house within 90 minutes commute of Stockholm (preferable in the Uppsala/Tierp region).

House must have a reasonably sized plot, high speed internet, be unfurnished (will accept part furnished as long as landlord is willing to remove furniture we don't need) and must accept dogs.

Rental period 12-24 months.

Must be a year round property - not a summer house.

Garage preferred but not essential.

Geothermal heating preferred.

Ideally we would like something 100+m2 but would accept a little smaller so long as there is at least 2 bedrooms (or one bedroom plus a large space for an office).

Modern or recently renovated property required.

It's pretty uncommon in Sweden to rent houses, other than summer houses, so be aware that you will not find many houses on the market. But perhaps you can find some here:

According to the police there is a lot less crime in the Uppsala area now than it was some years ago:

Personally, I wouldn't worry about being stabbed/blown-up/shot in Uppsala. Leave the idiot savant to his alt-right fantasies.

Besides, Tierp isn't even Uppsala.

If you can afford it, then buy rather than rent. Much bigger choice, likely even to be cheaper also.

I can afford to buy but I am not sure I would be able to get a mortgage without any credit history also my wife would rather rent for a year first to make sure she is happy living there - rather than commit to a 6M SEK mortgage and then find out she hates it.

There are some facebook groups where people advertise properties for rent also - try that avenue.
You can also look on the website of the municipality you want to move to, there is often a list of all landlords including private landlords (although the most common type of rental property is an apartment).
