I can only speak for where I live, 120 kilometers south of ?stersund and yes, people are laid back up here. But I travel to a
textile exhibition near Ume? once a year and see no difference in attitude. Summer is best if you enjoy a lot of sunlight. Personally I love the winters.

People are people wherever you go. Some are nice and some are assholes. Don't base your travel on that.
I've never been to ?stersund but I went to Ume? about a year ago and it was a lovely place to visit, it was the culture capital of 2014 after all!

Ume? is a university town, ?stersund isn't. I haven't been to ?stersund for years, I recall it as being a bit quieter than Ume? [dare I say it, a bit more trad Swedish] but you'll get what you find, and people are people...

Living in ?stersund it's quite, not much going unless you are in some sort of sport. The people are great looking in as an outsider myself. But as mentioned in other posts, it does depend on one self, saying that people in Umea is different to ?stersund or Link?ping that would not be a true assumption.

I had the best wienerschnitzel of my life in ?stersund. Wish I could remember the name of the restaurant.

It was an older, established place at that time. Perhaps if you give me a few names of establishments that have been around for awhile, it might rekindle a memory.
