"Who is The Local for?
In brief, The Local is for anyone who is interested in finding out what's going on in Sweden and who reads English. Our readers in Sweden consist of foreigners from over a hundred nations, as well as Swedes looking for a different perspective on events. Abroad, The Local has become required reading for people planning a move to Sweden, planning to visit or doing business with Sweden. It is also used as a resource by foreign journalists and researchers writing stories about Sweden, or looking for Sweden's perspective on the issues of the day. " ----------------------------------------------------------- I see nothing there that says the Discuss! portion of the site is a social hour where people should expect to get to know each other. In fact... "Why are there so many anonymous posts? Some people prefer to remain anonymous when they add comments. Do you need to know who someone is before you will listen to their views?" --------------------------------------------------------- I was greeted in a very unfriendly manner when I first arrived because I had the audacity to disagree with one of The Clique in my first few posts (I had been lurking for a long time). One of said group made disparaging comments about me after every single posting of mine, no matter what I said. Personally, I have no interest in getting to know anyone from the forum, but I do enjoy the exchange of views. I also think it is a mistake to think you know someone through their postings on a news forum, especially if the person isn't allowing you to "get to know" him or her either. Perhaps they have no interest in joining The Clique and they should not feel obligated to do so in order to post here. |

I don't know any of the posters, but I wouldn't mind. Talked with Melanie on IRC, but that's all. Where would this forum be without all the colorful people!??? |

The IRC is the perfect place to keep the "social hour". Not only that, but it is a perfect place to keep The Clique and the obligation to introduce yourself and get to know each other. It is not part of The Local's setup.

To make it clear, I don't care if people socialize here, but they should not feel OBLIGATED to do so. Not doing so should not make the person a target of The Clique.

True... But the local would be dead without these people. You should push the "report abuse" button and see if The Locals Moderators are interested in your complaints..!?? Who is the Clique... I've got a "Harem" on the local, but I would not call it a clique. Melanie, Beth, Blondie and Roowhip usually disagree on lots of things, and discussion can be overheated... PS: Thanks for socialising with me... |

I think Melanie and Beth defended you the other day against 2 others of "the clique". The local is not a chat forum, but a place you can discuss whenever you want to. I like forums better, because I don't have to tell people that I have to go mto the bathroom, eat dinner etc... |

And above all, it is a news site where people should feel free to express their views without having to be introduced to, inspected by and approved by anybody else in the forum. |

True... but I like your picture anyway... I thought you were a man, until I saw the photo of you. |

But...it's ok to insult people for no apparent reason? Honestly, FR...your playing the coquette is not working with me today. I typically support you and enjoy engaging in debate with you, but you really crossed the lines of decency the other day and I think you know it. You brought Friday's onslaught on all by yourself. Your statement was horrible, unfair and flat out mean. Clique or no clique...if someone said something similar about you...you know I would rush to defend. I have in the past...some of the posts I have seen have been edited and deleted at my request because they were not fair to you. |

It seems as though The Local has a clone running around pretending to be me. Now isn't that nice and sleazy.
