If you have a Swedish permanent residence permit and you "are away [from Sweden] for longer than one year ... the Swedish Migration Agency may revoke your residence permit."
https://www.migrationsverket.se/English/Pri...-9tOAC8XwDpcOne Anybody have any experience in dealing with this one-year rule? E.g. How strictly is it enforced? My situation: I have PR but have been back in Australia for personal reasons since COVID hit in late March 2020, working remotely for my Swedish employer. I don't want to lose PR, but I'm also not excited about travelling to Sweden given the covid situation you have right now and the current difficulties in then travelling back to Aus. I also have a citizenship application under assessment that I don't want to lose! I am aware that you can extend the one year rule to two years, but only if you apply before you leave, which I didn't manage to do. |

Both Skatteverket and Migrationsverket have dedicated staff working to find permanent residents who are in absentia. Cases to recall somebody's permanent status are usually began when the person do not file taxes, do not respond to letters from state agencies or contact a Swedish embassy abroad to ask for consular help.

Thanks, that's very interesting! What about border movement records, do you know if they use these? These records wouldn't catch people living elsewhere in Schengen, but it would catch people living extended periods of time outside Schengen. (Otherwise if I continue to work from abroad, file taxes, and have a tenant check my mail, my absence wouldn't be noticed!) I'm beginning to see that staying abroad might not affect my PR. But it might be a difficult gap to explain when a case officer looks at my citizenship application? |

Information on non-EU-citizens entering and exiting EU through Arlanda is already available. In 2021 or 2022 the EU will introduce a common database of entry and exit movements of non-EU-citizens into the union. This will replace the current system of exit stamps in passports and make it even easier to keep track of the movement of non-EU-citizens.

Great info @CaseOfficer!
I am approaching a Swedish PR application and wonder which kinds of *stay outside Sweden* qualifies for exclusion from their calculations? - Multiple work visits of several days to EU countries, like Finland - stay in Hotel - Work visits of days and weeks at length, to NON-EU countries, living in hotel or apartment - in China - Visits to India - working remote and on vacation - are both excluded? - Other vacation travel to EU and non-EU countries Thanks in advance. |

You must have had a work permit for 48 months and you must have worked long enough on the Swedish labour market to form an attachment to Swedish society. So working remotely from Bangalore on an IKEA project will not help getting permanent residence permit. Normal amount of vacations outside Sweden is OK.
The Migration superior court has said that 43 months in Sweden is not enough for PUT; but there may be reasons to get an additional extension beyond 48 months to give the applicant a second chance at PUT. |

I will have had my work permit for 48 months by this summer and I have bought an apartment here, so I cant be more well settled in Sweden...
But, I do travel and live abroad an awful lot, both for work and simply to travel as I can pretty much WFH from anywhere on our projects... I guess I have spent 6+ months abroad in the last 3.5 years for various purposes. I guess I will find out if the relevant case officer makes this an issue or not |

I have no opinion on your case one way or another but I know people who have been turned down in the past 12 months for being out of the country less than you have. |

Hej, My average travelling days were around 100 per year. Most of my travels were business related. This did not stop me getting PR right after 48 months. However, I believe that it could be a problem now when I am applying for citizenship. |

Why do you care? You claim to have left Sweden and not concern yourself with swedish dealings. Is the real problem that Sweden didn't share your view of yourself as indispensable? |

Why do you care why he cares? People like us don't think about whether we are indispensable or not. It really isn't the point. What you wrote only shows how a total poser-wanker thinks. |

People like you have such sad lives that you come on a forum for people in Sweden and spread as much shit as you can to fulfil an agenda. Kinda pathetic for a "published scientist" to do when there are so many other things you could do with your keen intellect and an eye for detail. Oh I'm being sarcastic! |
