Hi everyone,

I am a New Zealander looking to move to Sweden in about 6 months time. I have experience in customer service and administration in an office. I also have a Bachelor of International Studies where I majored in Language Studies for Teaching English as a Second Language.

Would love a job teaching, particularly adults, but a basic admin job would suit just fine. I speak English, and also have a Diploma in Japanese Studies and have some Swedish knowledge. A job working anywhere where I can use my native English skills - like in a store or tourist operation - would also be considered.

Looking forward to hearing from you! Tack för hjälpen!

Jay

I taugtht English in Sweden for a while but to be honest it is difficult to find work and when you do it is hard to make a living out of it. Most Swedes already have a high level of English by the time they finish their higher education. Folkuniversitetet is probably the best place to work but contracts are always short fixed term and the semesters are very short which means even if you do manage to get work you only will work for about 7-8 months in year Without a permanent contract it is a waste of time. Their are very few private language schools outside of Stockholm and even then they don't really have any work that would sustain you. State schools are pretty much out of the question unless you have the relevant secondary school qualification and a high level of Swedish. Teaching teachers is also not really possible. As far as I know no one offers the CELTA or similar in Sweden. Becoming an examimer for Cambridge and IELTS is possible and there is some work in this area, although the frequency of the exams is no more than 7-8 a year and each exam would not earn you much (1200Kr). Forget trying to get more qualification such as Dips etc they are meaningless in Sweden. Sorry to rain on your parade but I have been looking on and off for work in this area for nearly 8 years and have never seen one single advert for an English language teacher within the state sector..

Thanks for the reply. As I said though, I'm not just interested in a teaching job smile.gif
