Since moving to Sweden from the US last year, I've met very few people (Corona hasn't helped) and made even fewer friends. It's starting to weigh on me a bit.

Since I don't have a job yet (I never get an interview on the jobs I apply for, likely cause I'm still learning Swedish), nor go to school aside from SFI via zoom, I have no reason to meet anyone and make friends. As such, the only people I really know are my fianc?'s family.

It would be nice to have some friends in the country, let alone the l?n, or kommun. Especially since my Swedish is halting/broken at best.

I live in H?gan?s.

What are your hobbies and interests? That's where happiness and better Swedish lies.

Most of my hobbies are done at home (craft type things, reading, etc). I fear I'm a rather boring person.

I do plan to get a dog after I have a job, but that's still a long time from now.

I bet there are local groups doing the same hobbies, book clubs etc and they won't always pick books written in Swedish etc.. or even if you read the English version they read the Swedish. You need to go to meet sweden, it won't come to you.

Have you looked on Facebook for groups? There are expat groups in Sk?ne, Malm?, Helsingborg, etc. A quick look brings up 'English Speakers In Helsingborg' as the biggest group in your area though there general group 'Expats in Sk?ne' might be more Malm? orientated so not ideal.

Then there is the app called Meet Up which is about people getting together in a group.

And don't listen to Martin, he's bitter and twisted. He treats Sweden like a credit card. He expects to be able to get everything up front then pay it back in the future.

The rest of us treat Sweden like a bank account. We only get out what we have put in. Invest in Sweden with time, effort, energy and willingness to accept it is different to where you are from and the interest it pays out is worth it.

Not Facebook specifically, but I did do a google search and found a lot in Malm? and one or two in Helsingborg. Malm? is 2 hrs away by bus/train, so not ideal. Helsingborg isn't too bad at 30-ish minutes. I went there a lot last year when I was getting started.

Local library notice boards, town or village community halls, Google search (it can translate too) etc..

I'll take a look at the library, but - as I said - I don't read Swedish well, so there's no guarantee if I find something I'll recognize it.

I've never actually even been in the City building, though walked passed several times.

Or in fact, totally not, as is oft the case.

And you say Martin is twisted? Classic projection.
