Working for a new company

Hi,

A friend told me that it is possible to work for a new company by taking vacations from your old company. For example your last working day at current company is Mar 31st, but you take your remaining vacation days and start working for your new company from Mar 1st. Is that true/legal/ethical here in Sweden?

It's not illegal two have two jobs, but you must be loyal to both. I wouldn't recommend to be employed by two companies that are competitors. You have to check the contracts too of course.

As you said, while it may not be a criminal offence to have two jobs a company can insist you only have one job while working for them, even if they are not competitors.

I know people that are not permitted to work for other companies while working for them. One of them works for Ericsson, or what's left of them.

The problem comes when you have 2 jobs and don't tell them because they don't pay the correct tax and at the end of the year a big tax demand arrives.

The aforementioned friends regularly received tax demands for over 30.000kr but I recognise they are maybe extreme examples particularly as one had 3 jobs and on paper worked 24 hours a day.
