The problem is, this forum has been suffering from a cancer for a long while. The vast majority of quality posters are gone anyway, and when one troll leaves, a new generation crops up. But I was fine with the old school troll who would just say dumb shit in interesting posts. Now it is incessent spam. INCESSANT. And so fucking boring!

The community appeal is being lost on me. I pop in and all I see is one eye sore after another. It's really, really sad. I've been a member here now for what, 7 years? 8? This forum has gone the way of Detroit, and now it all just smells of piss. And even without the likes of all the characters that have long since disappeared from this forum, I still enjoyed staying on to help offer advice or encouragement to people who I was sympathetic toward.

It's genuinely becoming not worth my time anymore.

I actually don't mind Gjeebes and the other various angry academics, at least they make decent points and can intelligently argue them. I have no issue with anyone have an opposing viewpoint to my own as long as they can actually argue that point in a coherent logical way. Truthfully it's the other few posters that pound on about everything being rainbows and unicorns here and are entirely dismissive of anyone whom doesn't agree, usually using some sort of "leave then" comment like this is a one-size fits all argument to each individual situation and applies under all circumstances.

I was lucky in that I came about a decade ago when everything was still very easy but I have enough expat friends to know how tough things are nowadays and sincerely do empathise. I would agree though that TheLocal did used to be a much friendlier place back in the day, I do miss the likes of people like Puffin, Streja ect.. whom were always so willing to lend a helpful comment or two to those that asked nicely. Perhaps they are still around though under different pseudonyms? It's tough enough trying to keep up with the various troll incarnates let alone try to figure out if older users are using new names. I still like to pop in once and awhile anyways and lend a helpful comment if I can as there is occasionally someone on TheLocal that could use some genuine help and that person shouldn't be faulted for the various faction flame wars that the forum seems to experience regularly.

Well said. Yes, I do remember Streja, way back when in the early days of TL.

The TL community is lost. And, the point of it being an actual "news" paper is also lost. And, just like you, I also come back once in a while...to see if it has gone back to how it was, but I guess it is a lost cause...

When I came here this place was rocking, everyone added a bit of comedy to a post and it was the best of "can you top this"...and it was topped!!!

However, today TheLocal or what is left of it is ours to keep alive, it's still a viable place and can provide help to newbies in Sweden and is a great place to vent frustrations...

If you want to know how bad Sweden is...look no further, but the truth and reality is that happy people rarely post here...

So be it, maybe things will improve, but that has to come from us...

So, if I understand the content of this post correctly, we have 3 little self-entitled piggies who think they have some form of authority over a public forum, who seemingly have so little going on that they are co-dependent on TL forums for their entertainment, and in true Swedish style, aim to ban people who don't walk the same "opinion-corridor"? Well placed, this is a Swedish forum after-all!

And on a closer view, who are these little piggies?

1) Sveddy, snowflake extraordinaire, who has yet to add "content", who has nothing to say in general about anything, who only has the self-confidence to post when embellishing something TL's treasure, known as Hissy-fit, has woken from his coma and somehow flails out some very singular garbage with his keyboard before falling back into it, and who actually believes that I am also Savage.

2) Gamla -"help, I'm stuck in high-school mentally"-H?lsingebock, TL's resident immature juvenile delinquent, who literally knows nothing of Sweden, doesn't live here and runs from questions of his ever having even visited Sweden, whose sole purpose is to badger, irritate, belittle and become the centre of attention, and who is some sort of schizophrenic "neo" neo-con caught between infatuation with Trump's unorthodox behaviour and general idiocy, and supporting liberal nutter political-correct "conformity" as defined by his own self-styled myopia.

3) And my fav, the very cra cra Mjennji, possibly Sweden's only stay-at-home-mom, and blogger-supreme who feels robbed of entertainment on TL forums, and is now regrettably bored if the content doesn't suit her fancy, who's main purpose in helping people seems to be to make sure "you" know how much of an expert "she" has become in Sweden's convoluted immigration system, who thinks "INCESSANT"(ly) prattling on about the Swedish immigration rules, somehow ISN'T boring as FUCK, who can't distinguish between a personal "blog" (i.e. your business) and a "public forum" (i.e. NOT your business), and who's ever so quaint facade of virtue cracks wide open with "threats" of "leaving the forum" (GOD help us all how will we manage?) if she can't ban and block people who write things she need not read, but anyway reads, but doesn't like and so wishes to stifle their "free speech", in true Swedish style (as if somehow, were such actions possible, she herself would be beyond reach of the same fate).

Y'all y'all need to realise, some of us come here, not just to vent, but also to "inform" [read: warn] other people of how sideways things can be in grand ole Meatballia, the "do-gooder missionary mentality" country,...not to seek YOUR "validation".

Y'all should also realise, this is a public space that you choose to visit. If you do not enjoy your visit...well...no one is forcing you to return.

I deliberately ignore their posts when I see their names. I simply cannot be bothered to read anything they post. We're the happy and content ones...

It is certainly refreshing to know some of the pioneers of the old TL are still around!

I tried to offer that as a tip several months ago as a genuine attempt to make compromise in this space, but it was lost on deaf ears.

The most aggravating thing is that these people clearly have time on their hands, but choose not to create their own WordPress site where they can easily create an engine all of their own to broadcast info. The spam and asinine posts and constant dwelling on morbidity is unhealthy if you ask me, but if it's their life's passion (which I personally won't shit on, as people have made careers out of far weirder things), then at least fucking do it right and create your own space. Not the freaking Local forum. Where expats come to usually ask for help about life in Sweden. Or have the occasional vent.

If perhaps the day comes that I find I have even a fraction of the spare time on my hands as they do, I'm going to go back and resurrect some of the good old threads from Princess P and Mzungu and Fishbait and shoot, even Rick Methven and fill this place with reminders of what once was. Maybe Gamla can help in this quest. Fight fire with fire?

I dunno. I'm a pretty sentimental person but I have personally found that camaraderie comes in all shapes and forms in today's world and I just really miss what this little space was before the cancer set in. It's such a shame.
