Hello,
I am looking for some advice with regard to learning to ride a motorbike and then getting a licence here in Goteborg. I currently hold a full UK Car licence but want to know how I would go about getting a Motorbike licence here. Do I need to take a theory test? Would I need a good grasp of the swedish languge (for learning and the test) or could i get away with english and my basic swedish? Would I be able to then transfer a swedish Motorbike licence back to the UK if required? Would I need to transfer my UK licence to a swedish one? Any help on this would be gratefully recieved Cheers, Daniel |

Howdy, I'm in the process of getting my Swedish MC licence now... Unlike the car tests, which can be taken in English, the MC test cannot. You will need to have a pretty good grasp of Swedish to pass the tests.
I spent around SEK8k to get my car licence, and so far around 5k for my bike licence. No matter how good a driver you think you are, you need to have atleast a couple of lessons first as there are a few special things they test on here. If you're going to transfer over your car licence from the UK, get your MC licence there first and transfer that as well. As I'm not from the UK though, I don't really know how hard it is to get your MC licence there. It's actually not hard here, you've just gotta know Swedish. |

You will need to get a MC tillstand (or somethin like that) which is basically a document giving you permission to learn |

Hello,
Im busy studying for the MC class A provisional license. My Swedish is poor so im having to study the theory course book in Swedish, so im kind of learning Swedish at the moment, which is great. Does anyone else any suggestion regarding the MC class A theory test? Tips and so on. Apparently you can have a translator but you have to pay for it, not the same for class B ( Normal Car license ) Not sure how much..Waiting for the letter from Vagverket.. So any tips / suggestions / ideas would be awesome! |

I heard that the law has recently changed and they now have to provide a translator for the test...is this true?
I am still not sure wether it would be best to do a 1 week intansive course in the UK (about £600) or to learn here...what do you think? |

Yes this is true ! Recently applied and got granted a translator. All you need to do is call them 0771717879 - Vagverket, and tell them you dont speak swedish and they dont have the test in English for a A-class license. They will then send you a paper that must be signed by a driving school ( Just got the receptionist to sign mine ) saying that you dont speak swedish. That's it.Ít takes 2 weeks to get granted the translator and then possibly about a three month waiting line to do the test with a translator. And it still only costs 220 kronor, very cheap imo.
In order to do it in the Uk you need to have a permanent address there and have been living in the UK for at least the last 6 months of the past year. Then you apply to do your BCT or something like that ( Basic training ) ..Then you can learn to ride, and then take your test.. Hope this helps. |

Have you exchanged your UK licence for a Swedish one? I don't recall how much time you have left to exchange it but if you haven't then you'll need to do that first. As for how long it takes, how long is a piece of string? You can find 5 day intensive courses or you can take one lesson a week over 5 months. It can also depend if you have moped riding experience and whatnot. You will need to take an eye test, theory test, risk assessment test and the practical test. These are all in line, so they say, with the EU test criteria. I also think there are two levels of test for if you want to ride a bike up to 500cc and bikes over though it might be 650cc. |

Don't forget, now that the UK is no longer in the EU it is not as simple as just applying to change licences anymore. The UK as seen as a third world country! Your UK licence will probably be valid for 12 months and then you'll need to take a Swedish test!
