The Local _ Studying _ Applications for 2021/2022

Hey guys,

I'm kicking this off with a question - are there any second-timers applying for Master's in Sweden again this time around?

Don't be shy - share your experience!

Hey im a first time applicant myself, would be interesting to hear from other applicants who've had some prior experience to this. I'd particularly like to learn about the selection groups, and what they mean (PG, DA, APG), I'm qualified as HPAV in one of my applications, no idea what that means blink.gif

Posted by: AHamurari 28.Nov.2020, 06:12 PM

Hi,

Don't quote me on this, but I think I've seen someone saying that HPAV refers to 'higher education credits', whatever that might imply smile.gif

Hi, Is anyone else applying for Masters study in 2021? I've applied to Lund and Uppsala.

Looking through the forum, this thread is empty compared to past years.

Posted by: mohammeddibrahim667@gmail.com 20.Jan.2021, 05:13 PM

This year seems to be lacking the excitement of last discussions. Anyways, I got admitted to Chalmers last year, couldnt attend tho due to the pandemic.

Exactly to the Lund and Uppsala (and some in Norway too). Cheers wink.gif

Applied almost at the start of application period, so I hope I'll see some changes soon and feed my anxiety a bit. So far all 4 applications are 'IN PROGRESS'

May be they cache the data that your documents were checked the last time?
But yep, this is fast.

*180/999 is probably due to the fact they have not provided the maximum MR to the
admissions system (and 999.9 is maximum possible here).

My application has the following remark:

QUOTE
We'll begin processing admissions applications as soon as the deadline for submission of documents has passed.

They are probably waiting for 1 Feb

Posted by: gluck3d 1.Feb.2021, 08:05 PM

No changes in university admissions unfortunately even on 1st Feb. But at least I got admitted to one pretty low-rating uni in Norway (Oslomet). Not going to accept it (they demand answer till 8th Feb and all good unis in Norway also give the answer mid-April as in Sweden), but it is a good sign that at least my docs are ok smile.gif

Posted by: gluck3d 9.Feb.2021, 02:24 PM

Just learned out (from previous years topics) that unintentionally I've chosen one of the unis which update the results the latest smile.gif So I guess I'll have to meditate for a long time on this info:

Lund - Machine Learning, Systems and Control - IN PROGRESS
Uppsala - Data Science - Machine Learning and Statistics - IN PROGRESS
Uppsala - Industrial Analytics - IN PROGRESS
Uppsala - Image Analysis and Machine Learning - IN PROGRESS

Anybody here targeting LTH as well?

Posted by: gluck3d 9.Feb.2021, 02:25 PM

Another good news is that the number of applicants seem to be smaller than previous year. I guess COVID related...

Posted by: CortisolCocktail 9.Feb.2021, 03:53 PM

They haven't updated the statistics for this semester's intake, right?

Statistics is already there, i believe. You need to select MASTERHT21.
No stats on admitted numbers obviously yet, but we can see stats on number of applicants, 1st choices, gender and age ratio and so on

*** http://statistik.uhr.se/ for anybody looking for the site

Posted by: CortisolCocktail 9.Feb.2021, 04:10 PM

Why are the statistics for MASTERHT20 and HT2020 different? Shouldn't they be the same for the same Master's programs?

No idea, sorry. But the list of programs is different. For example I couldn't find my Lund 'maskininl?rning' one in HT2020 at all, but it exists in MASTERHT20

Can't find the descriptions of what these codes mean.

Posted by: gluck3d 9.Feb.2021, 04:19 PM

Found this description somewhere in uppsala site depths:

Nationella antagningsomg?ngen (HT2020).
Internationella antagningsomg?ngen (MASTERHT20).
which google translates to:
National admission round (Autumn 2020).
International Admission Round (MASTERHT20).

Posted by: CortisolCocktail 9.Feb.2021, 04:19 PM

Yeah, thanks anyway for trying!

I'm trying to find out how they calculate the AU entry. Alternative entry points.

Posted by: CortisolCocktail 9.Feb.2021, 04:24 PM

ah that makes sense. Yeah, we're competing with the internationals. Got it. Thanks for finding that info!

Posted by: gluck3d 9.Feb.2021, 04:28 PM

Reg 'AU' group info is scarce. Seems like a 'special' group for more specific assessment. May be they will require an interview or something like that. But that's just a theory.
You may check the previous year statistics for this group though and how it compares to other groups. If you select 'Urval 1'(Selection 1) you will see stats for all groups. They may be fully admitted or have a different MR requirements etc

From what I understand if Antagningspo?ng is '*', then group was fully admitted.

Posted by: CortisolCocktail 9.Feb.2021, 04:30 PM

Yeah, I was just looking into that now. For one of my choices, the AU points was like 70. Then I saw some other programs with AU points at 900. So I assume 70 is a fairly low requirement?

It's a very mysterious selection process.

Posted by: gluck3d 9.Feb.2021, 04:33 PM

You can't compare these numbers across different programs (and not sure if it is always comparable within different groups of one program). Each university uses its own scale of merit ratings and it may be different for each program.

Hey,

Anyone received any updates on their application?

Posted by: Simu 10.Feb.2021, 02:10 PM

No updates yet for me, still 'in progress'

Posted by: gluck3d 10.Feb.2021, 02:22 PM

Yep. Unfortunately both Lund in Uppsala had updated the applications last years only few days before deadline, so it seems I'll have to wait till may be first week of April sad.gif

Posted by: Simu 10.Feb.2021, 02:40 PM

Darn it, feels like a really long wait

2 of my 3 choices now say conditionally qualified with a merit rating of 150/270 at Stockholm University. Not sure if this is very good...

You may check the passing grade for previous years on statistics site. It may differ this year though (both from different number of candidates and it may be calculated differently this year)

Posted by: sandazu27 10.Feb.2021, 05:23 PM

Hey All,

Yeah Uppsala updated, I have an AU merit rating 180 out of 285- hoping that this will get me into the program

I'm still waiting on Gothenburg though- In progress

hopefully, everyone gets into their programs.

Posted by: Competitiveruler 10.Feb.2021, 05:31 PM

Does anyone know what factors affect the merit rating the highest? I feel like they do not care if you had a very high gpa but would instead care about who took more credits. In addition, is it true that a certain number of Swedish citizens have to be accepted in every program?

Posted by: gluck3d 10.Feb.2021, 07:26 PM

From what I've seen in previous years discussions - different unis/programs calculate MR differently.

There are few common practices though - for example MR180 may usually mean that they have accounted your bachelor studies for 3 years/180 ects (and they won't increase it even if you have 4 years bachelor) - this is a maximum for previous education it seems.

Also this MR may be not final - ie they just scan educational docs and give everybody their 180, then they will update MR based on other parameters like grades, motivational letters etc.

Also there are some cases like MR 999 - they just want to put some exceptional candidate on top of the group.

No idea about quotas though, but probably they have it for various categories.

I chose one of the business programs, but I'm not sure how they categorize students. I applied super early though.

But i have read somewhere that the number of credits taken is accounted for in calculating the merit rating

I applied on 16th Oct. They have sent a message (on 19th) via university admission page asking for a program specific document (which was already there) though. And after I've reached them, they confirmed that everything is ok to be reviewed (on 20th). So I guess I was early too.
Most probably different faculties calculate applications with a different speed. May be business teams have less applicants or just more people to do the review...

I guess that depends on a university and program. But many programs seem to give a default 180 points first for anybody who has at least 3 years of bachelor studies. If you have more - this may (or not) be reflected when your application will be reviewed once more, along with possible bonuses for other documentation you have provided them.
A lot of applicants from previous years got 180 points on their first update. Some has contacted their universities (you can do this by reaching program coordinator) and were told that their system assigns 180 points by default to any international applicant with sufficient education.

Howdie everyone,

Does anyone have any updates to their applications to Gothenburg and/or Uppsala?

Cheers

Posted by: Simu 16.Feb.2021, 12:12 PM

Although it's not my first choice, Uppsala hasn't updated for me either.

Posted by: gluck3d 17.Feb.2021, 10:21 PM

Nope, nothing yet. Fortunately we will have some news before the forum is closed smile.gif

Good luck everyone.
