Why? Ever heard of Armistice day? Why have that? Why "remember"? . But ya, you're right SkoBo. WWII, such old news, no one talks about that anymore, eh. Least not in Europe. 11 Nov and remembering all wars, isn't the same as your claim that everyone is still talking about sweden in ww2. It's generally called remembrance day by Brits or the UK, but yeah everyone remembers. Some from every generation of our family have served to some level over the years, me included, we have one of clay poppies that was at the tower of London commemoration and our kids are very well versed. It might surprise you that this school year our 13 year old was studying part of the British Air Forces role in ww2 as part of their history lessons given that it's VE anniversary etc. They tied it in in English lessons by reading Whalliams 'grandpa's spitfire' book. So there is not ignorance or head in the sand as you often claim. Anyone adult in 1940s making the political decisions sweden took then would be 100+ now, whilst there are always lessons to learn, folk do move on. |

Because Sweden is liberal dictature. You can say what you want untill you say something not mainstream. No, you will not be arrested and sent to Gulag but you will be silenced

Again I have not found this at all. I have found that there are varying views on all of the above, both at work and at home. I only read one Swedish paper and it writes about difficult issues and has articles which disagree with mainview - they wrote the debate article on Corona for example. With regards to Swedish Newspapers they generally could certainly be less "sensational" at times and more factual with a fuller debate. I am not sure why newspapers in Sweden have developed in this way. I find English newspapers to have deteriorated the most in the last 10 years I have gone from reading 3 of them now to one and that one is now becoming terrible as well so will probably swap it out for the FT which at least tries to be factual. |

I think it's the general transition from print to digital. They are all chasing clicks and ad revenue. Folk might sit down with a coffee and read full an article in broad sheet, a balanced analysis. Now it is a quick two minute read on a phone whilst waiting the bus, tram, tube etc.. reading has changed from an hours sit down to dozens of short bursts. The depth and quality has suffered with it. |

On the other point, I would say someone arriving 10 years ago compared with 5 or less years is arriving in a noticeably different Sweden. How so? I have friends who have arrived in the last two years who have not found the admin a problem and as you can see from my post my citizenship application was after 2015. I have seen that queues for applications have increased, however I believe that this is more for individuals outside of the EU? I also believe (after my app) that UK apps were prioritised end of last year due to impending Brexit..? |

The "printed" media is in a death spiral and will do anything to sell "hard" copy news...When they go what will we use for the bottom of our bird cages, etc., as that is truly the place they have earned whilst spiraling down...

And Finland was the first and only now EU country to pay its debts in total, decades before any other, starting already in the 50's, much to its own detriment. The thing is

I don't find the subject of WWII spoken of at all really and when I bring it up with people there isn't much of an appetite to discuss it be it Swedes, Norwegians or Danes. In fact the British and Commonwealth cemeteries here are often visited by Swedes who leave flowers, wreaths and candles. You saw Swedes are cowards, let's skip over the thousands who left to fight in the war for other countries, but some might say they were sensible. Finland fought a war with Russia and lost over 600,000 in a war they could never win. My view is it is better to go down fighting but another part of me thinks what a waste of life when they knew they could never win. So, should Sweden have done the same with Germany? Maybe they would have got more respect had they resisted but then what utter stupidity it would have been. |

Armistice day came about because of the end of WWI which never came to Scandinavia. Two years ago when it was the 100th anniversary to make the end of the Great War I was amazed there was nothing on TV about it and the local British & Commonwealth cemetery had no commemoration. I asked a couple of army vets who were at the cemetery and they told me it was because Scandinavia wasn't involved it in so it isn't a world war to them. They should no more mark that war than the Korean War or any other foreign war. Makes sense. |

I'm not a grammar snob but it shocks me how many spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes or just plain wrong words that appear in articles on major newspaper websites. |

When you think of today's energy deals between Germany and Russia...it's like a war between them never existed...
And for many living today they don't know or even care as long as they can be warm, etc.!!! |

Are you suggesting that there should still be deep seated resentment still all these years later? Considering the Russians did more to help beat Germany than the Americans did they should be better friends. |

Absolutely not!!!
They should hug and warmly embrace each other... So why is America paying for troop presence in Germany that is there to protect them from the Russians??? |
