It seems that a lot of cyclists believe that they always have the right of way in any situation and can ignore signs and other road users.
I was on my way home today from town when an old guy (older than my youthful 70 years) on a racing bike shot off a cycle track on to a pedestrian crossing right in front of me. He was doing at least 20 kph, I was going at 30 with my speed limiter engaged. I saw him coming from my left just in time to stop on the crossing. He then starts giving me a mouthful that I should have stopped earlier a let him pass and that I had now spoilt his speed trial!! I told him that it was a pedestrian crossing not a cycle crossing but he claimed he still had the right of way. To him and anybody else who thinks that cyclists can ride over a pedestrian crossing, be informed that a marked crossing that is not controlled by lights is for walking on only.cyclists must push their cycles over a crossing after ensuring that their is no car on the road close to the crossing.

I also cycle a lot, 3 to 5 days a week to work and I get infuriated by those cyclists who zip across pedestrian crossings without stopping, ignore traffic lights on red, rights of way and do not bother to even indicate. Only a few weeks ago a middle aged mature woman clothed in Lycra and all the gear, who was riding to the left of me and effectively over-taking me, decided she needed to turn right. She crashed right into me and fell of her bike. The verbal outrage from her was appalling, although I was in the right. Not one word of apology.

Bicyclists are actually allowed to use pedestrian walks, but they still do not have the right of way as pedestrians do.

Put a human on wheels, and an amazing personality shift occurs. It would actually be an interesting behavioral study to see why this occurs.

Do pedestrians use and abuse the road code: Yes
Do cyclists use and abuse the road code: Yes
Do motorists use and abuse the road code: Oh yes.

The difference between a situation where the motorist is wrong and a situation where the cyclist is wrong is that regardless of who is wrong, in both cases the risks for the motorist usually amount to some scratches and a rush of adrenaline whereas the cyclist has much more at stake...

Of course pedestrians can have the same reflexion towards cyclists, however, the highest amount of danger on the road, and therefore the highest responsability remains with the motorist...

As long as all types of traffic are not separated, such conflictual interactions will keep happening, but honestly, having both extensively driven and ridden a bicycle, the amount of dangerous behaviour in motorists far outweight any danger created by cyclists. And that's not taking into account the environmental and spatial benefits of riding a bike rather than a car ?n most situations.

I would like to know, by Swedish law:
1- can cyclists come fast from far away and ride over a pedestrian without even take a look for incoming cars? because even though the drivers take a good look for the pedestrian, but many times the drivers are surprised suddenly with a cycle just crossing the pedestrian, and must stop the car instantly (harsh break) which is totally not good.

2- Who has the priority a car or a cycle to pass first?
