The big issue is what you can rent for - some cities have rooms easily available in student corridors of 1500-2000 kr whereas in others you will be lucky to find somewhere for 3500-4000kr

I know that some students get by on around 5000-6000kr/month - t depends though whether you want to travel and eat out etc

I know I ask you a lot of questions but just one more, you say you can't rely on getting a job there. Even part time jobs are hard to get? I suppose especially if you have no Swedish.

Very tough to get jobs in most student towns - at best it might be part time work - but won't get you anywhere near paying all bills and giving time to study full time - but there are a lot of Swedes chasing these jobs

the cheap rooms are very very rare these days - you will not find any in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö - most would be for the small regional colleges that offer a housing guarantee - but not always the most exciting places to study

Obviously not so "äktaSvensk" (genuine Swede) if you don't know that fewer than 30% of places are allocated according to the entrance exam and that the entrance exam is not compulsory

- it is gymnasiet grades that are most important thing and these can be from Sweden or abroad

Obviously if the course is taught in Swedish you will need Svenska B/TISUS but not otherwise

Well not for international courses taught in English - like the majority of Master's courses

Most people on these boards don't take Högskoleprov at all - they apply in the category of overseas high school grades using their grades from their own country translated by VHS/Studera

I mean obviously if you are fluent then it makes sense to apply in both the grades and the SweSAT categories - but your post made it sound like everyone takes the test

If you are accepted to an English speaking course there are no tests in Swedish - a course advertised with English as "undervisningsspråk" doesn't suddenly decide to run clases in Swedish

yeah, this still does my head in. should we require all parking spots be wheelchair accessible (extra wide spaces) and all bus and airplane and cinema seats too? wouldn't it make more sense to allocate a percentage of all new builds for student housing meet the accessibility requirements and mark those prioritized to students with requirements?

LOL - now you're trying to change the subject away from the strange assertions that you previously made that everyone must expect to be tested in Swedish

No not all Masters courses are in English but around 70%+ are in English which do not require any knowledge of Swedish as all literature, lectures, seminars, exams, papers, dissertations are in English

If on the other hand you apply for a course taught in Swedish - then strangely enough you are required to speak Swedish and must produce your certifcate in Svenska B or TISUS - although you do have certain rights to write exams and essays in Nordic languages or English - but if you enforce your right to write in icelandic it may take your department a while to find an examiner

It is of course a different moral issue as to whethe you should learn Swedish as an international student - a lot depends on how long you intend to stay

I have question regarding English eligibility. I am from India and have moved to Sweden a while ago. I want to apply for Master courses. But the issue is that VHS has rated my high school English as Engelska A. Though the language of instruction in the Universities are English but we didn't had English as a subject and its not stated on the mark-sheets that
language of instruction was English. Plus i have not taken TOFEL or ILETS. What should i do in this case?? Does anyone have an idea??? And if i take Engelska B exam will that help???

If you are applying from outside Sweden then you need to take the TOEFL or IELTS if your course requires Engelska B

If you are already in Sweden then you can take Engelska B at komvux - you can either take the course for a whole term OR you can "tentera" by paying a fee and taking the test

If I appear now for exam then I don't think it will get the result of Komvux by Feb 1st which is last day for sending the result. Is there any way to send this English requirement a little later , is it possible to discuss this with some administrator at university ?

It's definitely possible if your local komvux is flexible - you could have the result by Friday - but not all work in that way

I assume though you are applying from outside of Sweden as an international student who will need a visa? as if you are in Sweden you usually have until april and can submit new results until June

yes it is april if you are applying from within Sweden - the earler date for overseas applicatons is to enable people to apply for visas
