The Local's Swedish news now blocked by paywall

Money money money - I just realised

Just tried to read some Swedish News on The Local but it is blocked behind a pay wall.

I saw the photo of some bicycles and a reference to new laws in Sweden. It was kind of interesting, but not so much that I wanna pay to read it.

Although many others have gone that way they all fail and end up amalgamating and then playing the click bait game. (Which turns people off). I am unaware of any other "website only" sites that have been around for so long before putting up a paywall.

Surely they could have used the "beg" approach first? Lots of nice articles and then asking for money of a free will basis. Or they could have decided we that have been members for over 10 years should get a free account. It is our word that spread the news of The Local around and helped make the website popular.

I guess this has already been discussed. When did this happen? What have The Local themselves said about it?

PS
It is one of those weak pay walls that sends the content to the browser before the pay wall activates so if you are quick after clicking you can press escape and read it anyway. (Anyone paying probably feels hard done by. - Don't worry many of the main paywall websites in Sweden have the same flawed technology so it's a well known problem.)

You are correct and many people think this could be the end ofThe Local unless they revert back.
I don't doubt however The Local will come up with some form of b******t and say otherwise.

I believe it only applies to the Swedish version.

Now you know. But there is still another way as well. Bet The Local's working on it right now.

Well, now I know. Haven't seen any stories interesting enough to try it out, however.

There are posters here that condemn the quality of TheLocal's news articles and refuse to pay for the right to do so, yet they take the time and make an effort to find a way to read those very same articles without paying...

The word irrational comes to mind...

Just tried it and it does work. Although the article that I was reading was so boring and unsubstantial that I quit reading halfway through.

I still don't get it...

People so revile the articles that they are now lined up to read them by circumventing the subscription payment...

It seems the revilers are full of "Donkey Dust"!!! rolleyes.gif

"...many of the main paywall websites in Sweden have the same flawed technology..."

And lest we forget, Sweden is Europe's "IT hub", the next "Silicon Valley"!

Bahahahahahhaa!

Let's just hope the Swedes never create a CPU!

I see that The Local now gives you a chance to get FREE trial membership if you complete a survey about how diplomats buy cars.
Who the hell is interested on how diplomats buy cars. This is some desperate attempt to get you to pay up for secondhand news.
For those who know how to, there still is a way to read this secondhand news for free.

The frequency of paywall stories being posted by the local will now see a decline. As more swedish state agencies are receiving funding to combat Sweden's negative image.T ... (show full quote)

Even this is better news about Sweden (than The Local) in English and it's FREE.
