About the driving test. The cost, based on this website I just found, is around 1300 Kr for 80 minutes.
https://mydrivingacademy.com/en/stockholm-ostermalm/

There are three parts:
theory
skid pan test (pretty easy according to my wife)
practical

The theory and practical seem to be standard in the EU. To pass the theory you need to learn the answers to about 1000 possible questions. When you sign up with a driving school, they give you access (or sell you) to the online learning and testing website). You can do this in English too.

For the practical, you will need a base level of Swedish to understand the examiners instructions.

You can choose which city or town to take the test. Some take in small towns in the north, as there is less traffic.

You can use your AUS driving licence for 6 months. So you need to plan to get the SE licence within this time.

The construction industry may not be the best area to work in in Gothenburg since most of Gothenburg has already been destroyed by construction companies through unfinished projects. There is nothing left to destroy. Honestly, an immigrant from Syria or Lebanon would come to Gothenburg and wonder whether they had actually left home. From the point of view of the construction companies they will now be subject to the tragedy of the commons - they will run out of pointless projects designed to make profit out of the misery of the civilians and like other viruses will be forced to find new hosts to parasitize off.

Hope that helps.

I've been here 18 months and like it so far, but i did an internal transfer so i had a job (in English) and i have a route back if we don't like it here long term, so i can't comment on getting a job.

+ Amazing countryside, great lakes, love living by the sea, clean air.
+ Gothenburg is small enough that i can live 15km out and ride to work safely on cycle paths the entire way, beats an hour on the central line every day.
+ Sea is right next to you, so now i can take the kids to the sea and lakes after school instead of walking home via the A306 and a 100 discarded mattresses.
+ No traffic (relative to London anyway), we can actually drive places at the weekend and it doesn't take 2 hours to get somewhere 20km away, plus cars are cheaper to insure and lease.
- Expensive, nothing in isolation is loads more but when you add up that everything costs slightly more it becomes a lot
- Bureaucracy and rules. Stuff takes AGES to get done, customer service basically doesn't exist and as far as i can tell no one in any official capacity is required to actually know what their job entails and even if they do it's 50/50 if they will actually help you.
- Gothenburg has basically been torn down and is being rebuilt. It's a total eyesore in some parts now. Plus crime is getting worse and some areas are total shit holes. And i've lived in East London since the 70s..
- Just remember to agree with whatever the widely held consensus is on a given topic. If you disagree keep it to yourself unless you're not talking to a Swede.

I'm still glad i moved but i would just try to remember that Sweden is like any country and has good and bad parts, but it is not the social utopia. There are a few Brits in Gothenburg so if you do move we'll always be up for a pint!

I lived in gothenburg for a few years and am returning there now. I loved living there. I actually find it a pretty town and like the size. I am a teacher and got a job fairly easily. I made strong connections with swedish friends by myself and through my husband. Swedish friends are very loyal and you will have them for life when you make them. Also it is also possible to have passing acquaintanceships with swedes like you do in the UK and Aus (having lived in both countries). I don't share the negative experiences of the others on this thread, but everyone is different with different views.

Another thing: I enjoy the seasons. We are actually returning from Sydney. Of course Swedish weather can't compare to the Australian summer, but I hated the Australian winter. There was no break from late autumn through to the end of the summer. Our house and my work were freezing. Proper sleep-in-your-clothes and go-for-a-shower-to-warm-up cold. Back in Sweden, I am sat in my pyjamas all nice and warm and looking forward to snow (from inside obviously!).

How many publicly detonated hand-grenades/bombs in Gburg this year? Has Rona kerbed that taste in 2020?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_grena...tacks_in_Sweden

Some sobering thoughts:

"18 September, Gothenburg, a hand grenade exploded after being thrown at an apartment in Biskopsg?rden.[81]"

"3 December, Gothenburg, a grenade exploded outside a family home in Hisingen.[88]"

"21 January, Gothenburg, a hand grenade exploded after being thrown through the window into a house in Biskopsg?rden in which seven people were present. The attack was linked to gang conflicts involving several grenade attacks between rival gangs in December the previous year.[91][92]"

"7 September 2018 a hand grenade was thrown into a restaurant in Gothenburg"

Sweden, such a breath of fresh air, eh?

About a week ago I was just sitting in the front room alone no sound on the light was on and I wouldn?t say outside my house or anything but maybe 250-400 metres I Heard this noise I?m no weapons expert but it weren?t fireworks or crackers I know thAt... it sounded like a short 3 or 4 burst from what I think was automatic gunfire nothing else after and like I said I knew it wasn?t directly outside this was around 12 or 1am I thought nothing of it and I?d say within 5 minutes I could hear a helicopter up above maybe the police? And it stayed there 10 or 12 minutes I might be putting 2 and 2 together and making five I dunno heard nothing on the news anyway

It would be fireworks else it would be in the news. How much news do you consume anyway?

I only listen to real news like Alex Jones or David icke..why?
