@Abby, come join us in the facebook support group - there are close to 900 members with active pending cases, and many of them are in situations like yours. @mjennin2, Thanks for the invite. I did join in the FB group. Latest on our case is that on Friday (15/01) I was finally able to talk to the case officer. Her direct number in Bor?s was never answered, so I called the Uppsala office, and they kindly offered to send a mail to the case officer to contact me, and that worked! (good tip for those who have a trouble in getting touch with the case officer) She said that all the documents are in order, and they are evaluating our case. Her supervisor will also have to go thorough the case, and he was expected back from vacation on Monday (18/01). So I am keeping the fingers crossed now. Even if the decision is made and is positive, my wife will have to wait further few weeks to get the permit, since MV will send it to the embassy in Delhi, and they will then post it to the Consulate in Colombo. Not a very efficient logistic arrangement by any standard if someone ask me - But hay, what do I know. ![]() |

Is marriage the only ticket to a Swedish Citizenship, then? Marriage is in fact completely worthless for anything, even trying to get a temporary residence permit. Doesn't matter if you've been married for the past 80 years with 5,000 children and grandchildren, or if you met on international Tinder and met in person just once before applying to move to be with your partner - it takes the same amount of time, in the same queue, to get a residence permit. Marriage has nothing to do with citizenship - but here is the page on MV's website that talks about what does qualify someone for citizenship (make sure to click on all the links to read the specifics) http://www.migrationsverket.se/English/Pri...for-adults.html |

Hi Mjennin, I see that you know alot about all these processes regarding permits so I was wondering if you could help me answer to some questions. I have applied from Sweden however, I still haven't received any information regarding my process. What is the first next step in my application process? Is it an interview? If it is, do my sambo and I need to book time for it? How much time do we have in order to book it? My sambo has a business trip at the end of next week and she will be away for 1.5 weeks. I am concerned that if Migrationsverket invite us to an interview during next 2 weeks, we might not be able to show up. Actually I might but she would be in a foreign country ![]() In addition, if Migrationsverket requires some additional documents, do we send them before or after the interview? I am in a process of passport renewal which might take up to 30 days, can MV wait until it's done? I would like to use my new one instead of old one. |

Hey Dome! What is the first next step in my application process? Is it an interview? Yes - interview! I wish I had more intel on cases like yours. I'm basing my opinions on "inifr?n ans?kningar" on a very small sample size, but as I've said many times before, you all seem to wait measurably longer than those who apply from outside of Sweden and endure the separation throughout the process. Nonetheless, as a non-EU citizen who applied in your circumstance, yes - the interview is the next step ![]() If it is, do my sambo and I need to book time for it? How much time do we have in order to book it? Yes, you will need to book your appointment at an MV office in Sweden, but you won't do this until you receive the interview email. In that email, they will tell you that you have 14 days to schedule the appointment. You are at the mercy of both your schedule, as well as MV's. I have no doubt that many of the MV offices out there may have long queues to schedule an appointment, but just call them up and so long as you make the appointment (for any time in the future) within 14 days of receiving your email, you're good to go! You may consider driving to a permit until that is remote and farther away from all the refugee action in Stockholm, Malm? and G?teborg. I am concerned that if Migrationsverket invite us to an interview during next 2 weeks, we might not be able to show up. The interview is primarily for YOU, not your Swedish partner. So it won't matter if your girlfriend is on a business trip, because you are the VIP attendee of the interview ![]() if Migrationsverket requires some additional documents, do we send them before or after the interview? I wrote a novel to esclavos about this on the link here (post #424) just yesterday - check it out so I can spare TL from another novella haha! Bottom line: just wait. You can email it early of course, but it doesn't seem to make any difference in the wait time. I am in a process of passport renewal which might take up to 30 days, can MV wait until it's done? Yep! It would be ideal if you had your new passport at the time of your interview because they like (need?) to see the original to verify it is real and such, but just bring whatever you have (if you get to keep your old passport, bring that to your interview too). If you don't have the new one at the time of your interview, just let them know it is coming and to please make a note that you will email in copies of it once it has arrived, and they will update your case with that info. Yay! |

The next process is an interview. You will get a letter at some point when your application is at the end. You don't get invited to make an appointment, one is given and you have the option of responding directly to the "handl?ggare" if you can't make it for whatever reason. You must both be at the interview and take with you identification along with personbevis and any other supporting documents you might want to show. Just ring or mail the "handl?ggare" that contacts you, you will be given an idea what to bring, but a personbevis is almost always required. |

Ah, this is good info! So people who apply from within Sweden don't get any discretion over the date they do the interview? What if the applicant cannot be available? Surely they must have some power over selecting a date... And in which case, OP could still schedule the interview on a date in which his partner is available...eller? |

You get a suggested date, you can change it if you can't make it. But I wouldn't, that would just send you back on the waiting list.

I guess I have some reading to catch up to! I see this talk of applying from within Sweden... Does anyone know of anyone who has applied from OUTSIDE Sweden and then either converted it to within or re-applied from within? |

Has anyone come across that MV asking the marriage to be registered in Skatteverket (Tax Agency) even before your partner is granted visa? I have been asked to do so, and I called Skatteverket to see if that is the normal procedure, and was told it is not, - yet you could do so by sending the documents to them. It takes them 4 to 8 weeks to have things processed it seems. The normal way would be that you register the marriage after the partner has come, as she/he anyway has to get registered with them.
I have asked MV for clarification, but no answer yet. Just wondering if you guys have come across similar situations. |
